會(huì)議介紹

Globalisation and the Challenges for Health Care/ Public Health:

Towards an Interdisciplinary and International Debate

This symposium will address the growing integration of biomedical, natural, and social sciences in healthcare and public health to tackle pressing global issues. Advances in digital health, bio-manufacturing, and precision medicine have heightened the need for interdisciplinary collaboration, particularly from the ELSI (ethical, legal, and social issues) perspective, ensuring socially responsible implementation of new technologies.

Globalization has simultaneously enabled the cross-border exchange of medical innovations and raised challenges. While diseases now spread rapidly worldwide, national responses have often proven insufficient. Additionally, the uneven distribution of medical resources, such as the high costs of breakthrough drugs, limits accessibility for economically disadvantaged populations. Cultural tensions further complicate medical provision, with differing attitudes on reproductive health, end-of-life care, traditional medicine, and vaccination.

Addressing these multifaceted challenges requires an international and collaborative approach that transcends individual disciplines, combining biomedical and natural sciences with social science perspectives. This symposium will convene experts from prominent institutions to promote interdisciplinary dialogue. Hosted by Kobe University, the event will leverage the institution’s social science expertise and its location in Kobe, a city recognized for the “Kobe Biomedical Innovation Cluster (KBIC)”. This setting offers a unique opportunityto incorporate insights from professionals actively engaged in the medical field, emphasizing practical approaches over theoretical discussions. Through this collaborative effort, the symposium aims to generate actionable solutions that can guide responsible, culturally sensitive, and equitable advancements in healthcare on a global scale.

Date: 29th November (Fri) & 30th November (Sat), 2024

Venue: Kobe University, Rokkodai 1st Campus, Frontier Hall

This Symposium is support by KU ‘Digital Bio & Life Science Research Park’ Initiative (DBLR) & The KU Center for Social Systems Innovation (KUSSI).
